3 Things To Help You Prep For Your Boudoir Shoot

Need some help preparing for your boudoir photo shoot? Here are 3 ways to help make your shoot amazing!

Preparing for your boudoir shoot will not only make you feel comfortable and confident, but also ensure that your photos turn out how you want them.  Boudoir is personal and should be done to bring out and show off your own unique style.  Here are three tips to help ensure you have everything ready to help create a perfect shoot.

Bring Props That Mean Something.

Most good boudoir photographers will have a selection of props available, but you can really make your photos special by choosing something that is more meaningful to you.

Think about props that represent your relationship. It could be something relating to how you met, or something you share in common.  If you have a favorite vacation spot, you could use something that represents that place like beach sandals, sunglasses, or souvenir items that feature the name of the beach.  Perhaps you both like listening to vinyl records – bring them!  Love a specific sport?  Grab a bat, ball, helmet or other gear related to the sport.

Add Accessories To Match Your Unique Style.

The right accessories can make your boudoir photos more personal.  If you’re doing a boudoir shoot for an engagement or as a wedding gift, consider wearing a bridal veil combined with a sports jersey from your guys favorite team.

If you like time periods, why not go Victorian with Steampunk styles or even take the bridal veil and use a vintage style from the 40’s or change the color to black.

If you like to joke about being a princess, a tiara or sexy Cinderella could add a little whimsy to your photos.
Sexy Cinderella Plus-Size Lingerie
Add something unique that shows off who you are in your shoot.  What makes you the person your partner loves?  Think about that and then tie it in with your outfit or accessories.

Choose Lingerie.

The prime item that will ensure your boudoir photos are stunning is lingerie that fits well while making you feel sexy and confident.  Choose something that enhances all of your best assets to make you feel comfortable so you are ready to shine for the camera.

Having the ultimate boudoir shot is easy.  Think about what makes you the person you are and then bring those things in as props and accessories.  Next, find the lingerie that works with your props and helps show off your favorite features.  Now all you have to do is pose and let your photographer do their magic.

Twice As Nice Glamour and Boudoir Photo Shoot

I have been lucky enough to photograph the tall and beautiful Nicole twice in the past few months. She needed some classy and sexy photographs of herself to post on her website. Nicole is tall, I'm guessing 6'2" and has lovely longs and a charming smile.
Elegant glamour photo of a beautiful woman wearing a long black dress
When she first contacted me Nicole mentioned she needed new photos for her website and that she went to two boudoir photographers she found on Groupon, but was not satisfied with their results. Luckily, she came to Las Vegas Glamour Boudoir and we delivered what she wanted.

Photographing Nicole was a joy. She was extremely easy to pose and followed direction well. After the photo shoot I loaded the images on the computer for Nicole to view and select the ones she would like to purchase. Usually the viewing and selecting process takes about 15 minutes, but these took about 60. LOL. Nicole loved all of the images so much it was hard for her to narrow down the selection.

Here is a Q & A that Nicole wanted to share about her experience.
Q: What inspired you to do a boudoir photo shoot?
A: I needed some amazing and new photos for my website.

Q: Why did you choose Las Vegas Glamour Boudoir?
A: I had tried 2 other photographers who couldn't quite capture and accentuate my best features like I saw that Bryan did when I found him.

Q: Are you giving the photos to someone as a gift, or are they something special that you want to keep for yourself?
A: As mentioned above the photos are for my website but it is very important what they portray because captivating and unique photos are absolutely essential in my business.

Q: Were you feeling excited or nervous leading up to the shoot, or in front of the camera?
A: From my first shoot with Bryan he put me at ease and made me feel like a star!

Q: How did you prepare for your boudoir photo shoot? Did you practice poses in front of the mirror?
A: just visualize the theme I want for the shoot, get my outfits together and Bryan helps me make the vision a reality with his creativity, talent and awesome skill set. I have a bad tendency to practice in the mirror WHILE I’m shooting!!

Q: Did you enjoy viewing and selecting your favorite photos immediately after your shoot?
A: It’s actually difficult to pick only a certain amount of the photos he shoots, I want to take them ALL!!  I have so much fun looking through them too!

Q: Would you recommend a boudoir shoot to someone who never had one before?
A: ABSOLUTELY!!  It is like no other experience you have had as a woman!

Q: Do you have any advice or suggestions for anyone considering a boudoir photo shoot?
A: Just trust Bryan, let loose, and don’t worry about your flaws, he’ll take care of them ALL!! Be the sexy, uninhibited, pinup girl you’ve always wanted to be!

Nicole was also awesome enough to leave me a 5 star review on Yelp.
Thanks A lot!

When Was The Last Time You Had A Beautiful Photograph Taken Of Yourself?

12/7/2015

For myself the answer to that question is extremely easy. NEVER.

Oh wait, I remember a really cool photograph of me. I may have been two or three years old. I had amazing blonde hair and was rocking a killer looking pimp suit. It was the 70's, what do you expect?
Portrait photography Las Vegas
But seriously, I really do not have any good looking pictures of myself. There are a few portraits that I have when i was in grade school, but they all suck.

If you know anything about school photos they are a joke. The photographer that goes to the school to snap the pictures rarely knows anything about photography. Their job is to get every the kid in the school in front of their camera as quick as possible. What exactly does does that mean to you? A fast, one shot, shitty looking, hope you didn't blink, take it or leave it photograph of your child.
Beautiful young woman wearing a blue dress in a glamour photography pose
Parents purchase the overpriced picture package because that is a current "professional looking" photograph of their child.

Besides, who really has 30-60 minutes of time to invest and get a great looking photograph that you will want to hang on your wall and appreciate every time you walk past it? Unfortunately, most people do not.

Smart phones are great. You can text, surf the internet, post on Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, play games, use 1000's of apps and take pictures. Oh, I forgot, you can actually use it as a phone and call people. Because of smart phones everyone has a camera on them 24/7. And because of that smartphone most people are now "photographers".

I posted a portrait on my Facebook page with the tag, "Celebrate your SELF, not your selfie". A friend of mine replied, "But I like selfies".
Glamour Photography by Las Vegas Photographer Bryan Kurz
Selfies are like fast food. They are quick, low quality, and available in seconds. The negative side is that selfies are terrible looking photographs and easily forgettable.

When was the last time you were so excited about eating at McDonalds that you took a photo of your food, posted it on social media and bragged to all of your friends that you are enjoying the best tasting hamburger you ever ate and wanted to share your experience with them? Probably never?
Glamour photography of a beautiful young woman wearing an orange dress
When my father passed away five years ago I searched and searched for a great looking photograph of him. The majority of the pictures were old Polaroids of him where he was holding in his hands a cigarette, a beer, or sometimes both. The only respectable photograph that I could find for his obituary was a tiny, low resolution picture that I was not proud to use. Unfortunately, it was the best I had.

How do you want to be remembered? By your family? Your children?

Beautiful curvy woman poses in black lingerie
What inspired you to do a boudoir photo shoot?
I have been wanting to do a boudoir shoot for awhile now but did not have the confidence. I lost quite a bit of weight in the last year and I wanted to show off my new sexier curvy body.

Why did you choose Las Vegas Glamour Boudoir?
Your website shows real women and you make them look amazing! I knew that you would do the same for me.
Sexy boudoir photo of a plus-size woman wearing lingerie posing on a bed
Curvy women are absolutely beautiful. Do you feel that most women believe you have to be a size 2 to look good in boudoir photos?
I believe that you have to love yourself regardless what size you are. Beauty is not a size.

Are you giving the photos to someone as a gift, or are they something special that you want to keep for yourself?
I am giving these boudoir photos to my husband. He is going to love them. Especially since he can look at them on his phone whenever he wants.

How was your boudoir experience? Did you feel excited or nervous leading up to the shoot and in front of the camera?
I felt excited and nervous at the same time, but that soon went away. I felt sexy in front of the camera and had a blast!

How did you prepare for your boudoir photo shoot? Did you practice in front of the mirror?
I really didn't prepare much. Just looked at a few pictures online.

Do you think that a boudoir photo shoot is something every woman should experience at least once?
Yes. It was really fun and I love how I look.

Do you have any advice or suggestions for anyone considering a boudoir shoot?
Relax and you will be fine.

Vacation In The Philippines

12/16/2014

Alright, so let’s get the obvious out of the way. I know it has been forever since I updated my blog, but I have been busy lately with other projects and a much needed vacation

I was in the Philippines for a couple of weeks and had a blast. However the twenty hour flight to and from was not fun at all.

The plane landed at the airport in Manila and I was picked up at the by a couple friends. This was my first time in the Philippines so I did not know what to expect. Even though I arrived late at night, the traffic on the roads was absolutely horrible. There were so many cars on the road and everyone was in a rush to get nowhere fast.
Photo of the Manila Airport
I stayed at a friends condo located near the airport. The nearby homes were definitely something I was not expecting to see. Things like napkins and toilet paper we take for granted in the states are very hard to come by in the Philippines and considered a luxury.
Squatter homes in Manila
My travel in the Philippines consisted of cars, vans, buses, mass public transit, jeepneys, motorcycles, airplanes, and boats. Most however, was in a van similar to this one pictured. The road trips were long, sometimes six hours and that van was packed. And by packed, I am talking about seventeen people plus their baggage, packed. Those rides were absolute torture on my body.
A very packed and uncomfortable ride
We left the busy and hectic city of Manila and stayed in the slower and more relaxing province of Natividad in Pangasinan. I really enjoyed the time we spent here. The people were so friendly, the food was amazing, and the land was green and beautiful.
Farmland in Natividad, Philippines
On our last night in Natividad we met up with some friends in town, had some drinks and made lubi-lubi. It is a dessert that is made with cassava, margarine, condensed milk and topped with grated coconut and brown sugar. It is delicious but a very tiresome process to make. It took many of us guys a lot of turns pounding the ingredients together. It was totally worth it.

The food here was really good. I tried everything and loved it all. The bowl of frogs were intimidating at first, but after seeing someone else eat them I dove right in. My daily meals consisted mostly of rice and fish. I was feeling adventurous and tried balut, a boiled duck egg with a small embryo inside. It was a challenge to eat but I did it. Gotta live the culture and experience new things.

Next, we hopped a plane to El Nido in the province of Palawan. This was the best part of my vacation. We stayed at a little hotel overlooking the beach. The water was amazingly clear and its temperature was warm. We went out on a few different excursions for two days seeing some beautiful sites at located at many different islands. I absolutely loved snorkeling at each of the islands. It was so cool to see the amazing coral and so many different types of fish all within a arms reach.

Lastly, we traveled to Puerto Princesa and went to the Underground River. It is one of the new 7 wonders of the world. We traveled through it in a paddle boat viewing its contents with a small battery powered spotlight. The cave featured many beautiful mineral, crystal, and rock formations. Unfortunately, because of the lack of available light inside of the cave, and the use of my phones camera, I was unable to capture any images of the inside.

This vacation to the Philippines was very fun and much needed. I seen some amazing sites, experienced many new things, and met some really great people too!

Want To Know What Victoria’s Secret Is?

Apparently they have great looking lingerie but failed to tell me

Many years ago, I used to love Victoria’s Secret lingerie. I even worked as a stocker in one of their stores during my late teens. Their bras, panties, and lingerie were cute. Nothing outrageous or trashy, just elegant and pretty. Victoria’s Secret was the first name that came to mind when I thought womens underwear. Mainly because at the time, they were the most popular of only a few lingerie of stores.

Now, there are now many popular lingerie stores and most if not all sell their outfits online. Due to many options and choices available, Victoria’s Secret pretty much faded away as my go to lingerie store.

Every once and awhile I would walk into their retail store and search for the perfect outfit for a boudoir photo shoot, but would leave empty handed. The styles they had were not that impressive and were something that I have seen before. I gave up on them all together.

I was pleasantly surprised during a recent boudoir photo shoot that the lingerie being worn was from Victoria’s Secret. I honestly could not believe it. Yesterday I took a few minutes to check out their website and I LOVED IT. The photos of the models and outfits look amazing! The styles and variety of lingerie, bras, and panties are absolutely gorgeous.

Great job Victoria’s Secret! I did not think you could ever do it, but you have won me over as a fan of your lingerie again.

An Elegant Masquerade Glamour Photo Shoot

Venetian masks + Las Vegas glamour photography = One amazing photo shoot

About a month ago, I was contacted by Vivo Masks, a high quality designer masquerade mask company, asking if I would be interested in using one of their masks in a glamour or boudoir photo shoot. My answer to them, ABSOLUTELY!
Photo of a beautiful young woman wearing a white dress and a masquerade mask
Vivo Masks features handcrafted masks made in Venice, Italy, using the traditional techniques of venetian craftsmen. I took a look at their website and instantly fell in love. There were so many great looking masks to chose from.

For this photo shoot I selected the Occhialino White Metal Masquerade Mask. The half face design, color, and rhinestones would work perfectly for what I had envisioned.
Glamour shots Las Vegas
My model for this glamour photo shoot was the beautiful, Megan. Our first set was shot against a shiny silver metallic curtain. I gelled the strobes to change the color of the curtain to something a little more gold. This allowed the backdrop to match perfectly with the accent colors in the mask and also helps gave the image an overall warm and appealing look.

Next we shot against a white backdrop. Here I did a few close-up shots to capture  Megans stunning face and the intricate detail of the occhialino mask she is wearing.

We also did a few shots of Megan holding her dress while moving it side to side. This allowed me to capture some movement in this beautiful dress. There were many photos to pick from in this sequence of movement, but this photo is my favorite because Megan is having so much fun and has the prettiest smile.

Thank you Megan for being an amazing model and thank you Vivo Masks for allowing me the opportunity to use this beautiful mask in our glamour photo shoot.

7 Boudoir Photography Tips For Photographers

7/22/2014

So you want to be a boudoir photographer?

I am, and I absolutely love it. Unfortunately, you can not become a great boudoir photographer overnight. You have to start somewhere and finding that starting point can be a difficult task if you do not know where to look. So to help out, I created my best 7 tips on how to become a great boudoir photographer and how to take amazing boudoir photos.

The photos in this blog post were taken at a boudoir workshop that I attended in 2010. Some of the photos were edited using my editing skills (or lack of) back then, while some are not edited at all. These photos are an example of what to avoid when shooting boudoir as well as a look back at some of my work when I first started. Hopefully you will find these seven boudoir tips beneficial and help you become a successful boudoir photographer!
Boudoir photo shoot tips for photographers starting out in boudoir photography
Tip #1- Attend a boudoir photography workshop
This is what gave me that extra push into a career of boudoir photography. I was attending college in pursuit of a commercial photography degree when I attended my first boudoir workshop back in 2010. The workshop cost about $250 and it included two days of learning about boudoir photography, lighting, photographing a nude model, a few in lingerie, and hands on shooting with established boudoir photographers.

It was quite an experience photographing my first nude mode and other women in lingerie. However, looking back, this workshop was really not that impressive. The students only got a few minutes each to photograph the models. Most of instructors sat back and just said to take pictures of the models in the rooms instead of actually “teaching” us anything. To makes things worse, one of the instructors was behind all of the students snapping away pictures at the model too.

Workshops are great, but now a days it seems like anyone with a camera has one. My advice, do your research before spending a lot of money attending a boudoir workshop. Make sure that the instructors are knowledgeable and have a style that you can relate to.

Tip #2- Learn your camera
It is very difficult to take a good photograph if you do not know how to work your camera. At the boudoir workshop we were shooting in a room with two different lighting setups. One setup used hot lights, while the other used strobes. The class was split in half. One half of the class shot with the hot lights first, while the other half shot with the strobes. I was in the half that started with the strobes.

We were told by the instructor to set our cameras to ISO 100, f8, at 1/125 for our exposure. A fellow classmate had no idea how to set her camera to this. I was shocked. The camera she was using cost nearly four times as much as the DSLR camera I had and she had absolutely no idea how to work it. I felt embarrassed for her watching her fumble around with the camera and pressing random buttons. I asked if she needed help, and she handed the camera to me. After moving the camera from fully auto into manual mode, I made the adjustments for the proper exposure and showed her how to change the settings. Know how to work your camera inside and out. Auto mode will not cut it.

Tip #3- Having an expensive camera does not make you a great photographer
When I first started going to college for photography I had a Canon Rebel XT DSLR. It is an 8 megapixel camera that had a very small preview screen on the back of it. I purchased this used camera from ebay for $300. It included two lenses and a camera bag. This was a great starter camera and it took amazing pictures. Since then, I have purchased better and more expensive cameras because my skill and knowledge of photography grew. I get asked by friends that are not photographers and even some new photographers about what kind of camera to get. My advice, start with something basic and then invest in something better once your skill has outgrown the camera.

Tip #4- So I am ready to be a boudoir photographer, but where do I find nude or lingerie models?
This was a question that I asked myself a lot. It is hard to become a boudoir photographer when your portfolio has zero boudoir photos in it. Family portraits, landscape, and flower pictures will definitely not help you.

Attending the boudoir workshop helped me capture a few images to get my portfolio started, but if you do not plan on attending one, simply use your available resources. I asked my wife to model for me, but you can ask your girlfriend, best friend, sister, mother, or even a random woman you meet while walking your dog. There are women everywhere. All you have to do is open your mouth and ask.

You can also try Model Mayhem. This is a site that helps model, photographers, and other creatives meet to create photo shoots. To join, simply create a profile and upload four of your best photos. You can search for models that have the specific look you want, or you can create your own casting call and have the models come to you. New models always need need pictures, so set up a trade shoot and offer your photos for their modeling. This is a fast and easy way to build your portfolio.
Best boudoir posing tips for photographers
Tip #5- Alright, now I have models for my boudoir photo shoot, but where do I photograph them?
This is a popular question that I always see asked in the boudoir Facebook groups I belong in. The answer is quite simple. Anywhere you can. Photograph them in your home or at theirs. If that will not work out, rent a hotel room and do your photo shoot there.

And no, you do not need to inform the hotel staff that you are a photographer and plan on using their hotel room for a boudoir photo shoot. Just pay for your room, get your key, drag all your gear to the room, set up, and start shooting. Besides, lots of crazy things happen in hotel rooms and taking a few pictures is no need for alarm.
Curvy model wearing lingerie posing in front of a mirror
Tip #6- I have a hotel room to do my boudoir photo shoot, but the room looks horrible
No worries. Living in Las Vegas, I have done boudoir photo shoots in many hotel rooms and about 75% of them all look the same. The room you get usually has ugly furniture, artwork, carpet, drapes, and a comforter that has not been changed since the mid 80's. This is what you do. HIDE EVERYTHING!

Take down the distracting artwork from the walls. Stick the telephone under the bed. Hide the room service menu, phone book, alarm clock, ice bucket, and glasses. You may even need to move a lamp or two. Definitely remove the comforter from the bed. Those things are absolutely hideous. Just use the white sheets and pillows.

Some hotels try to be cute and bolt down everything. If you are faced with this problem, simply work your angles and shoot tight. That way no one will ever know your photos were taken in a hotel room and not in a fancy boudoir studio.

A word of caution. Lighting in hotel rooms suck! If you are planning on doing a shoot in one, I recommend doing it in the afternoon and let in some window light. If not, you will definitely want to bring some extra lighting.
Nude model poses at a boudoir photography workshop
Tip #7- Practice, practice, practice
This is the most important tip of them all. Practice photographing women of different size and race. Practice your boudoir posing with models and then use the poses that looks best with your clients. Do not be afraid to try new things and do not be afraid to fail. This is the only way to become a better boudoir photographer.

Thank you for reading my 7 for boudoir photographers. If you found this helpful, please share with others or leave a comment below.

A bingo agent experiences a sexy boudoir photo shoot

I recently did a boudoir photo shoot with a beautiful young woman named, Kiki. She is a student at the College of Southern Nevada, in pursuit of a Business Management degree.

I had a great time chatting with Kiki during our shoot. She was full of energy and so much fun!

After our photo shoot, I asked Kiki if she would like to do a Q&A session to share her story, experience, and photos on my blog. She loved the idea and agreed to do it.

Q: What kind of activities do you like to do to stay in shape?
A: I am a fitness fanatic and enjoy lifting weights and HIIT cardio. I'm also really into clean eating.

I found his guide to shooting a boudoir shoot very helpful since it was my first one. He gives direction well and it was easy to follow. He makes you feel comfortable and ensures your whole experience is enjoyable.”

Thank you Kiki for allowing me to share your story and photos, as well as the the kind words. It was an absolute joy photographing you.
